Trauma Therapy

What a Trauma Therapist Does to Help You Heal

My trauma therapy approach is:

  • Trauma-Informed & Mindfulness-Based — Every session is grounded in compassion, safety, and respect for your lived experience. Mindfulness practices are woven into our work to help you stay present and connected throughout the healing process.

  • Schema Therapy — This approach helps uncover and shift long-standing patterns that can keep you feeling stuck in cycles of pain, shame, or self-doubt. It supports you in reconnecting with your authentic self and building a healthier relationship with your emotions.

  • CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy) — A structured, evidence-based method that helps you examine and reframe beliefs about your trauma. CPT is especially effective for reducing symptoms of PTSD, including intrusive memories, guilt, and avoidance.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) — I’m in advanced training in EMDR, a highly researched trauma therapy that helps the brain and nervous system process and release trauma at its core.

Together, we’ll work to not only reduce symptoms but also build resilience, restore self-trust, and reclaim a sense of peace in your life. Healing is possible — and you don’t have to walk this path alone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Trauma Therapy

What is the difference between trauma and PTSD?

Trauma is the emotional and psychological response to a distressing or disturbing event, like an accident, abuse, or a natural disaster. It’s normal to feel anxious, sad, or overwhelmed after a traumatic experience, but these feelings usually improve with time and support.

PTSD, on the other hand, is a mental health condition that can develop when someone doesn’t fully recover from trauma. It involves ongoing symptoms like flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance of reminders, or feeling constantly on edge. Unlike trauma, PTSD significantly interferes with daily life and may require professional treatment to heal.

How do I know that I am dealing with the effects of trauma?

Common signs include feeling constantly anxious, having difficulty concentrating, experiencing sleep disturbances or nightmares, and avoiding reminders of the event.

You might also notice that everyday tasks feel harder, or that you’re withdrawing from people or activities you once enjoyed. These feelings are a natural response to a challenging experience, but if they persist or interfere with your daily life, it might be time to seek support.

What happens in trauma therapy?

Trauma therapy is a safe, supportive space where we work together to help you process and heal from your experiences. We’ll start by understanding what you’ve been through and how it’s impacting your life. From there, we’ll use proven techniques, like EMDR, PE, and  CPT to help you confront and reduce the emotional weight of traumatic memories.

You’ll learn practical tools to manage triggers and build resilience, so you can regain control over your thoughts and emotions. The goal isn’t to relive your trauma but to help you feel stronger and more at peace in your daily life.
